Lectors & Commentators

The Lectors of the Word are men and women that participate in the celebration of the Holy Mass more directly and profoundly. Their ministry consists not only in reading, but in PROCLAIMING the Word of God to the assembly during the Liturgy of the Word (first part of the Mass). A Lector not only reads some readings aloud; their mission is to take the Word of God to all those who listen to it, for God makes use of the voice of the Lector to announce His message. Therefore, the Lector must be conscious that they are an instrument to bring the Good News to the members of the community.

At St. Joseph parish, any member of the community who has the capacity for good public speaking is welcome to become a Lector/Commentator. Lectors are expected to be practicing Catholics who live their faith actively, having a special reverence for the Holy Mass and the Word of God. They must attend all formation workshops given throughout the year, follow schedules, dress codes, and other guidelines indicated by the Pastor or coordinators.

Lectors are men and women who receive permission to serve from the Pastor. Lectors are also required to follow all schedules, dress codes, and additional guidelines indicated by the Pastor or coordinators, as well as attending all formation workshops given throughout the year.
