The Finance Council, in accordance with Canon law, is mandatory. The Finance Council is advisory and consultative in nature. This Council does not direct, but is there to advise the pastor in financial matters. More specifically, according to Archdiocesan regulation, the Finance Council should consist of three to five members. This Council meets on a regular basis and reviews income and expense monitoring, oversee the parish budget preparation, involvement in stewardship, support in investment programs and to advise on financing of building projects.
The Finance Council is directed by the values of the Gospel in fulfilling it’s responsibilities, as well as by good business practice. Efficient and effective use and management of parish resources must be measured as much by their contribution to parish mission and ministry as by commonly accepted business standards.
